Best Geeky Finds – … Or Bruce (A Look at My Name is Bruce)

So last week I watched all 3 Evil Dead movies, as well as both seasons of Ash vs. The Evil Dead. They were brilliant, but I felt like the quadruple feature just wasn’t enough. How about a quintuple feature? It seems like Bruce Campbell has starred in everything – Burn Notice, Cars, even The Librarians. But who is Bruce Campbell?

An outdated, useless B-movie actor living in a trailer according to the movie My Name is Bruce, a mock B-movie starring Campbell as himself. When Guan-Di, the ancient Chinese god of bean sprouts, is accidentally released from the shaft he has been imprisoned in for decades, the town turns to the one man with the experience to defeat a god. Too bad that person is actually a witless actor. Bruce Campbell acknowledges that he starred in all the movies people know him from, especially Jeff, a teen who has spent his life adoring the actor and every bad movie he was in. So how do you defeat an evil Chinese deity that’s killing everybody in the town? Well you can worship it with bean sprouts, or you can act like Bruce Campbell, and that doesn’t mean run away.

My Name is Bruce is the epitome of Bruce Campbell B-movies, using tropes from many Sam Raimi movies and downright mocking the cheesiness of these films. So if you’re not into gory monster movies with lots of blood, but want to understand why I enjoyed the previous movies so much, check out this movie.
