Best Geeky Finds – Will We Wait an Infinity?

Sometimes an animated series comes around that is beyond perfect. Two years ago, this series for me was Gravity Falls. This year the series was actually too good to be true. In fact, it turns out it may not be true. This series is Infinity Train

In November 2016, the 8-minutes pilot episode of Infinity Train appeared on Cartoon Network’s YouTube channel. The short tells the story of Tulip, a girl stuck on a bizarre train full of incomprehensible cars, each stranger than the other (a fart car?). Traversing the train, Tulip has two wishes—to get home (whichever car that may lead to), and learn the meaning behind the mysterious glowing number on her hand. Is it her ticket number? If so, where are the other 52 passengers on this empty train?

Joining Tulip on her trip is One-One, a literally bipolar robot which splits apart, either side extremely chipper or completely morbid. One-One is very reminiscent of Marvin the Paranoid Android and Eddie the shipboard computer from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Important for their trip is the car leading to the land of semi-anthropomorphized corgis. These dogs have been tormented by a dangerous shadow creature across the lake, which may or may not be the key to Tulip’s glowing number.

This pilot premiered on television in February, however the show has not been officially picked up (despite Cartoon Network’s acknowledgement that this was a pilot of which they are proud). It is unknown whether the reason it did not continue was poor television ratings (it premiered at 6 a.m. on a Saturday, a poor time to gain ratings), or that the network did not believe in the show. Nevertheless, it is still popular among audiences, with over 2 million views on YouTube. Check it out here.
