bestgeekyfindsI was first introduced to the X-Files by The Simpsons. The episode was called “The Springfield Files” and involved Mulder and Scully investigating an alien siting in Springfield. The alien turned out to be Mr. Burns hopped up on pain killers and experimental drugs to improve his age and bones which made him glow. When I was a kid I didn’t understand the in-jokes being made because I had never seen the X-Files. This was the late 90s and I wasn’t a fan of horror. Having died when she was young, Clary doesn’t know anything about her father or any of her family’s past. When she asks her mother, Jocelyn, or her uncle, Luke, they feign ignorance or change the subject. Then one night she witnesses a murder at a night club which only she can see. To make matters worse, not only does the murderer, Jace, start following her around, but she receives a phone call from her mother as she is being attacked and kidnapped. (Strategic Scientific Reserve) – the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D – while regularly being unnoticed by her superiors and those she is investigating. Unnoticed by most, except fellow agent Daniel Sousa and Howard Stark. Being unnoticed is an advantage to Carter, allowing her to go undercover and learn secrets nobody else is able to find. Best Geeky Finds – In the Not Too Distant Future…

bestgeekyfindsWe’ve made a lot of jokes about my movie tastes on the podcast over the last year. I will admit to fully enjoying movies like Plan 9 from Outer Space and Howard the Duck. Part of this is how I grew up watching these odd movies, while another part of this for me is the pure joy and imagination the original directors, no matter how horrible these movies turned out, had when originally constructing such travesties.
