In The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart, we meet January Cole, who runs security and deals with a lot of trifling problems of the rich. But she has problems of her own, along with a major event planned for the hotel and there’s something not quite right with the daily routine.

She Geek Critique – Not So Expendable After All

Space missions for the colonizing of planets is not a new idea in science fiction – actually, it’s downright common at this point. So when that’s the basic premise of a novel, it takes something a little different to stand out from the crowd. Author Edward Ashton has managed that in Mickey7, with the idea of “expendables”, people willing to do suicidal tasks to make sure the missions succeed.

The Game’s the Thing

Rabbits is one of those novels that’s difficult to explain without sounding confusing or giving something away. It’s definitely a thriller, with people literally being chased throughout the entire story. The basic plot involves a mysterious, real world game dubbed Rabbits (though, much like fight club, the first rule is to not talk about the game). It’s about finding patterns in seemingly innocuous things and solving puzzles. No one knows what the prize is and you can’t be sure you’re playing until you come across something that’s obviously related to the game because there’s no other explanation for it.

She’s the One

Girl One is an interesting novel that starts out as one woman’s search for her missing mother and turns into a quest for the truth about her own background. It sounds straightforward, but the background is what makes this novel different. The protagonist was the first of nine girls born via an experiment in parthenogenesis and she ultimately discovers that it means more than just existing without male DNA.
