The Gamer Geek Blog – Best Games This Year

GamerGeekHey Geeksters!

Well it’s the end of the year, so that means it’s time to judge every game that came out this year, or do what my friends and I do and give each console it’s best game. The whole thing of giving each category an award is cool for bigger things but for a small blogger like me, one per console is fine.

First up is PC. This was a hard pick for me since my cousin has gotten back into steam and with the winter sale going on you can get a bunch of games from $1-$10. While I played around 20 or so PC games, my favorite was: Undertale. In case you have been living under a rock (and that’s ok), Undertale is an indie game that pays homage to rpgs like Earthbound and Mother. This game had great music, a complex story that had replay value and a cast of characters that you get emotionally attached to. If you have steam and $10 to spare, I recommend you give it a try.

While the Xbox One only had a few exclusives, one game I played that brought back memories of the N64 was IDARD. IDARD is a party-like soccer game with random mini games for half time. From my experience with it we yelled and screamed, raged, cheered. One interesting feature was the twitter interaction with the game that changes random things in the game.

PS4 had a good year but seeing as no one I “work” with had a PS4, we had a work around for this. One PS4 game, Towerfall, gave us almost as much fun as IDARD. Basically you shoot arrows at your friends and the first one to 20 wins.

nAnd last, the Wii-U. Because I own a Wii-U this was an uphill battle for me, but after thinking about it the best game for Wii-U is Mario Kart 8. Now I know Xenoblade Chronicles X, Smash 4 and Splatoon are all great games they do have some drawbacks. Splatoon has a great multiplayer but lackluster single player. Smash 4 still needs to work on its netcode and Xenoblade X is just massive, which is a blessing and curse. But Mario Kart 8 has a balanced multi and single player, good netcode and has a good priced dlc.

I’m not doing handheld because I played way too many games to count on my 3ds and the ps vita is dead.

So see you all next year and thank you for all the support this year.
