The Gamer Geek Blog – Collectors Editions

GGBHey geeksters!

So lately I’ve been digging around for stuff in my room and I keep seeing my old “collectors” editions of games. It made me stop and think – is it worth the extra I spend for the extra stuff?

Well it’s very hit or miss with me. I only have four collectors editions of games and all come with soundtracks, which is always a huge plus for me since I listen to music to get me through the day at school and work. Some of them have art book, which are lovely things in and of themselves. Seeing the production and concept art is something I’ve liked since I got to college and started learning more about artistic things. The only problem with my art books is that one is only pictures and the other in in Japanese.

The price of other editions is also a huge factor in whether or not I get one. For instance, they are releasing a new Tales game next year and the game alone is $60, which is what games cost, but the collectors is $130 – it has the game, the whole soundtrack, five keychains, a hardcover “book,” a steel book cover, seven trading cards, the strategy guide and two chibi figures. That’s a lot for a $130 to me and there is a decent amount of value in this edition – I get a soundtrack to add to my collection, a book to read and other stuff, plus the 100+ hour game!
