Irregular’s Intel – Sweat Therapy

Blog-III’m a big guy. There, I said it and I know it to be true. In the past several years I have been up and down the scale, but mostly up. I have tried all kinds of eating plans and diets and whatnot, but they all failed. About four years ago I happened across a website that took people’s geekdoms and turned them into pathways to fitness. That website is www.nerdfitness.com and it was the first thing that actually made sense to me. There were even free workout programs that you could print off to get you started and groups for support. But, these were not your ordinary groups… but I digress.

See, that website opened a whole new world to me. I didn’t have to lift weights and ride the bike because it was good for me. I had to because it was part of a quest, I was on my way to leveling up. Just like in RPG and video games, fitness became a quest and I enjoyed it. Along with nerd fitness I discovered www.darebee.com, which has a host of bodyweight workout plans inspired by your favorite shows and characters. There’s even extended plans, one in particular called “The Hero’s Journey”. It plays out like a quest and the decisions that you make have consequences and rewards along the way. I made it a quarter of the way… it was not easy, at all!! I suggest that you at least look at it. Who knows, if someone messages me with a bit of encouragement, I may be inclined to give it another shot!

There are also all manner of apps to get you moving. There’s Couch to 5k, Zombies Run 5K, Shoutbox Workout, and a host of other boxing/MMA and running inspired apps out there. The apps are great because they’re portable and all you need, for the most part, are shoes and space! Plus, remember the first rule from Zombieland?

So, about those groups on Nerdfitness… they’re based on gaming classes!! Yep, you get to roleplay in real life!! You’re a fighter? Go hit those heavy weights until you pass out. You’re a thief? Time to pile on the cardio and yoga!! Oh, you’re monk? Hit the martial arts classes and don’t skip on the light weights!! And it just goes from there. Yeah… fitness honestly can be geeky fun!!!

So, I fell off the wagon for several months and I am feeling it. But that is ok, because I am back on and exercise feels good! I’ll actually have energy to enjoy my fandoms and read all of the books… and let my inner monk show (you already knew what my class was!). I’m serious… anyone feeling daring enough to start “The Hero’s Journey” who wants a monk in their party, email me at geekwatchone@gmail.com, or contact me on the FB page or my twitter account. Peace!!
