Irregular’s Intel – Who Is The Black Panther?

It’s official: Black Panther fever has hit and no one is safe! Marvel’s latest entry into the MCU is poised to be a blockbuster and will add another win in the MCU success column. But unless you watch the animated shows, follow the MCU or read Marvel Comics, the character may be a mystery for you. Outside of occasional mentions on various shows the general populace knows very little, if anything, about King T’Challa and his nation of Wakanda. So here is a crash course.

First, Black Panther is a royal title. The King, or Queen, of Wakanda is bestowed this title until their death or dethronement. All Black Panthers ingest the mystical Heart-Shaped Herb, that gives them enhanced strength, speed and senses. The herb is found only in Wakanda and, in legend, is said to be a gift from the Panther God.

Wakanda is a small nation in central Africa. The country contains many secrets that it is hesitant to share with the outside world and with good reason. It is the richest and most technologically advanced country in the world, all because of something called Vibranium. If you’ve seen other MCU movies you’ve already heard it mentioned, but once you see Black Panther you’ll better understand what that is.

T’Challa’s teenage sister, Shuri, is the smartest person on the planet (yes, that’s Marvel canon) and heads up the Wakanda Design Group, the R & D department of the country. She is the one behind the majority of the technological innovations of the country, including the Vibranium-powered weaponry and Black Panther costumes.

Then there’s the Dora Milaje, the kings royal guard. They are an order of all female warriors chosen from every tribe in Wakanda. Considered a pool of superior Wakandan women, they are among the fiercest fighters on the planet.

Ok, the truth is I could go into so much more depth, but I don’t want to be guilty of giving too much. Go and enjoy the movie. When it’s over, hit me up here or on our FB page and let me know what you think!
