Miss Dawn’s Musings – An Interesting Year

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsTonight we are recording the one year anniversary episode of Geek Watch One. Taking a page from Kylan (or a screen, considering it was a blog post – check Irregular’s Intel from Friday), I was thinking about what’s happened over the course of the year. Lots of episodes (aka issues), networks, connections, cons… and “free time” becoming a thing of the past.

But it’s also been a year of becoming so much more immersed in geek culture. Yes, we all went into this already being geeks, already steeped in our fandoms. But because we want to give listeners (and readers) a range of coverage, let them know what’s going on in fandoms that we may not know much about, we’ve all paid more attention to the blogs, news sites, entertainment announcements so we can share things. That’s why we went from monthly to bi-weekly to weekly so quickly after we began – we simply couldn’t cover everything once a month and keep our news and views fresh. And over the year we really have become “Geek Watch” because we try to gather whatever we can from every source and when we find something interesting, we go a bit deeper and try to get the details that a headline or two may have missed.

And it’s nice to know we have fans who listen to us every week (or catch up when they can) and that we’re really providing them with a bit more than they’d find elsewhere. Sure, you can catch the main stories on entertainment sites, but we’re the ones who will discuss the details, bring in some history, let you know what we think is really happening. And apparently you like it!

I went back and listened to our first issue and, well, it’s not as bad as I feared. We’ve definitely evolved with our format and audio quality, but the basics have been there from the start – geeks talking geek. So as long as you keep listening and we keep having a good time, I guess we’ll try for another year or two… or more.
