Miss Dawn’s Musings – Sportsball and Stuff

Blog-MDMThis year, for the first time in many years, I did not watch the Super Bowl (or the Big Game or whatever the hell you’re allowed to call it and not get in trouble for infringing the rights of the poor little NFL). Instead, I relaxed, read, watched some Netflix (Bob’s Burgers, if you need to know) and caught all the movie trailers online that were shown during the game.

I’m not anti-sport – I do have a favorite football team, as well as favorite soccer (real football) and hockey teams. But I’m not “into” a sport enough to watch a game my team’s not involved in just because whoever wins will determine my team’s fate in the finals, or whatever. If my team isn’t playing, I have no reason to watch a game, simple as that.

But, like a lot of people, I do enjoy watching the ads. And the great thing about the Internet is you can just catch them there instead of wasting time watching the game or trying to time your channel flipping properly to just catch the commercials while you watch another channel. Plus, you can watch just the ads you want to see and you’re not stuck with all the beer or car commercials. And this year there were a lot of movie trailers, which is becoming a bigger deal during the game now as film companies have finally realized they have a captive audience. With trailers being released online just before the game, it was great to simply watch them all (and post them on the GW1/K&K facebook page) and move on.

Next year, unless my team is in it, I once again won’t bother with the game. I’m sure the geeks out there understand completely.
