Miss Dawn’s Musings – Survived Another Odd One

Blog-MDMWell we all survived another Oddmall. It was good to see so many people come through and so many vendors keeping busy (and numbers look like this was the best Oddmall yet). And, of course, it was great to see all of the cosplay. Everyone really got their geek on last weekend.

When it came to the cosplay, there was a great variety too. Sure, we got the superheroes and Star Wars characters you see at other cons, but we had characters from video games, anime and cartoons too. And these weren’t thrown together costumes – detail and quality on some were pretty impressive. That’s a true fan, to take so much time and care to make a costume to show their fandom.

But the best part of the weekend was getting to geek out with so many people. As the official podcast of Oddmall, we not only had a booth but we also kept entertainment and panels running. Panels were a new addition this time, but they went reasonably well. I sat in on a comic book nostalgia one that was interesting (and I came out of it with a free book and comics). And there were plenty of people who came by the booth to see what the podcast was about and to just talk geek in general.

To be honest, I am not a people person and don’t like crowds so the weekend pretty much exhausted me. But I put up with it for the little things I enjoy – seeing some friends (whether they were vending, shopping or helping out), chatting about the podcast, seeing the fantastic creations of the vendors (and, of course, buying some) and having a few geek moments. Sometimes you need to swallow the discomfort and find whatever enjoyment you can.
