Playing Around – An Epic Adventure

December 2015, we treated ourselves to a new gaming system. We had not had anything new since the Wii, so it was high time for an upgrade. We bounced between the Xbox One and PS4. Both had their pros and cons, but there was one factor that did it for me… the Uncharted series. I wasn’t interested in jumping on the Tomb Raider bandwagon, I wanted something fresh. From everything that I had heard over the past few years, Uncharted was it. Plus, they had just released Uncharted 4 and there was a collector’s pack with 1-3… so guess what I did?

I did buy a few other games along the way to diversify my gaming experience, but Uncharted was everything that I could hope for and more! The characters reminded me of ones right out of the pulp adventures that I love so much, the environments were beautiful and the stories were top notch. I was as immersed in the world as I would be in a well written novel. I mean, I honestly cared about these characters! And, much like a highly enjoyable read, I hated to see it end (it doesn’t really, but kinda does… you know what I mean).

Nathan Drake brought this sense of modern day swashbuckling to the little screen that you don’t see very often in games now. He’s the hero, true, but he is far from perfect. I think that is what I like about him. I can see myself enjoying rum and cokes with him, you know? Then add Sully and the rest to the mix and you have a cache of characters that you can’t help but be drawn to.

Now I’m excited for the next chapter in the saga. True, it will be different characters, but if the same people are behind it, I have every confidence that the quality will be the same.

And, I have to say, this is one of the few games that I will gladly replay from beginning to end, without question.
