Playing Around – The Force is Legion

This week, geeks worldwide are (not surprisingly) thinking of nothing but Star Wars. So it seems like a great time to cover an upcoming game featuring the warfare side of the galaxy far, far away. Expected early in 2018, Star Wars: Legion from Fantasy Flight Games is the tabletop miniatures combat game fans have been waiting for.

From the publisher:

Star Wars: Legion invites you to join the unsung battles of the Galactic Civil War as the commander of a unique army filled with troopers, powerful ground or repulsor vehicles, and iconic characters like Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. While innovative mechanics simulate the fog of war and the chaos of battle, the unpainted, easily assembled miniatures give you a canvas to create the Star Wars army you’ve always wanted to lead into battle—whether you fight for the monolithic, oppressive Galactic Empire or the ragtag Rebel Alliance.

Players can live out on-the-ground battles, with a squad of Rebel Troopers led by Luke Skywalker or Imperial Forces led by Darth Vader. It’s not only combat skills that matter, but also strategy and rank. The game uses a new system involving rank tokens to activate units for attack.

Legion is definitely a game for Star Wars fans who love miniatures. The core game set includes 33 unpainted, unassembled, miniatures, so there is plenty to do before even getting to the game play. There are also expansion packs on the horizon to add more variety to both Imperial and Rebel units. If you’re truly feeling one with the force, a  full description of game play is available on the Fantasy Flight website.
