She Geek Critique – All the Things

Unless you live under a rock (or were vacationing there for the weekend), you know that Comic-Con International (aka San Diego Comic-Con aka SDCC) took place last weekend. It stopped being a true comic convention years ago and is now a pop culture and media convention. Of course, a lot of today’s pop culture is based on comicbook properties, so there’s a full circle thing going on anyway. The fact remains: SDCC is the grand-daddy of comic cons and it’s now where Hollywood lets loose with the vast majority of announcements and surprises for the year in pop culture to come.

It’s awesome that over the course of a few days we find out when our favorite tv shows are returning, casting news, updates on movie productions, new comic series coming out (yes, there are still some comics in Comic-Con!). But, of course, if you’ve paid attention to SDCC at all over the past few years you know what most of us look forward to the most: trailers! All the big pop culture and geek tv shows and movies drop trailers at SDCC and most are almost immediately posted to the internet. And now that streaming is such a big part of our lives (like Netflix, Hulu, etc.), there are even more movies and shows than ever to catch trailers for.

So, what are some shows that dropped trailers over the weekend? (Deep breath) Krypton, Inhumans, The Walking Dead Preacher, The Defenders, Stranger Things, Westworld, 12 Monkeys, Doctor Who, Flash, Arrow, Gotham, Vikings, Happy, Star Trek: Discovery, The Gifted, Lucifer, Stargate: Origins, American Horror Story, Legends of Tomorrow, The Magicians, Supergirl, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Voltron: Legendary Defender, The Expanse, Black Lightning… and I know there are a few I’ve left out. And then there were some big movie trailers too: Pacific Rim: Uprising, Justice League, Ready Player One, Bright, Thor: Ragnarok, Lego Ninjago, Jigsaw, Leatherface, The Shape of Water. Avengers: Infinity War showed a trailer to the crowd in Hall H that has not yet been released online (except in leaked, bad angle for recording form) and there was footage of Black Panther shared as well.

I tried to keep up with the trailer releases and either posted them on our Facebook page or retweeted them on our Twitter feed. There are also plenty of blogs out there with coverage that have links to pretty much everything. But seriously, it’s freakin’ difficult to keep up with everything! When all the biggies are gathered together in a single spot and start making announcements left, right and center at the same time – being the Web Goddess can get exhausting! But I do hope I’ve helped guide you to your fandoms of choice to see the latest and greatest from them. And be sure to catch our next Meeplecast (posting August 2) when we’ll have our take on SDCC and some of the tidbits that weren’t as well reported.
