Occasionally we feature a post from our friends at The Malted Meeple. This time around, it’s about Game Masters and the roles they play.
In previous articles, we discussed some of the roles filled by players in a role playing game. Some of these roles involved combat, some involved support. Some were specialized, while others were generalized. In roleplaying games players often get to choose which roles they want to fill; that is often a luxury not available to the Game Master. Of all the people sitting at the table, it is the Game Master who often has the most responsibilities. I’m a big guy. There, I said it and I know it to be true. In the past several years I have been up and down the scale, but mostly up. I have tried all kinds of eating plans and diets and whatnot, but they all failed. About four years ago I happened across a website that took people’s geekdoms and turned them into pathways to fitness. That website is www.nerdfitness.com and it was the first thing that actually made sense to me. There were even free workout programs that you could print off to get you started and groups for support. But, these were not your ordinary groups… but I digress. Best Geeky Finds – LARPs
LARPs: “In LARP, or live action role-playing game, players assume the identity of their chosen character and physically perform their actions (as opposed to simply describing them).”
I enjoy cosplaying whenever I have the chance to, and I enjoy playing RPGs of any format, but I have never participated in a LARPing session. The idea does not appeal to me.
