She Geek Critique – Doctor Who and Gender

If you’re a fan of Doctor Who (aka a Whovian) or simply savvy in pop culture, you already know that the identity of the 13th Doctor has been revealed. (For those not into Doctor Who, the character is a Time Lord who regenerates instead of dying… you know what? Go watch Doctor Who!) It’s an exciting time for Whovians and there’s always love and hate over the choice. But this time around there’s even more being said because, for the first time in the show’s almost 55-year history, the Doctor will be female.  Continue reading

Best Geeky Finds – A Matter for the Eighth Doctor

Aside from maybe 4, the Eighth Doctor, Paul McGann, is my favorite regeneration of the Doctor. While he was not seen for long in the TV movie, his character has lived on in Big Finish’s audio dramas, proving that he should have been the first Doctor to return when the series was rebooted. Unfortunately, he did not come back to television (other than the short 50th anniversary clip), but along with the audio dramas, Titan Comics has published a volume of comics encompassing his short run in comic form as well.  Continue reading

Miss Dawn’s Musings – The Doctor Invades the US

Blog-MDMPretty sure I’ve mentioned a time or two that I’m a big fan of Doctor Who, otherwise known as a Whovian. I love time/space adventures and seeing just how the Doctor will manage to solve the latest problem and save himself (and, usually, the Earth or another planet/civilization to boot). So I was intrigued when I heard about the publication of Doctor Who: The American Adventures, a collection of stories about the 12th Doctor’s time in the US.  Continue reading

Miss Dawn’s Musings – View from the Couch

Blog-MDMEveryone has those go-to movies or television shows they turn on when not feeling well. You know the ones I mean – you’ve seen the movie more than a dozen times and know all the lines or you have the plot of every episode of the show memorized because you’ve seen it five, six, 18 times. For me, when lying on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, sipping hot tea, half out of it from meds, I turn to one of two shows: Doctor Who or Supernatural. Continue reading

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Give Me the Multiverse

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsI’ve always enjoyed time travel stories as well as ones involving travel to alternate worlds. Pretty sure I can blame this, at least in part, on reading the Narnia Chronicles as a kid and early exposure to Doctor Who (4 was my first). So it makes me happy that there are a number of movies, shows and books exploring this at the moment. Continue reading

Sins of the Father Premiere

Neil_SinsOfTheFatherWebA few months ago we discovered series 1 of Doctor Who Dark Journey, the #1 Internet fan audio drama. We started chatting with the folks at AM Audio Media, creators of  Dark Journey, and they asked if we’d be interested in an exclusive release of an episode for series 2. Doctor Who meets Sherlock in 19th century England… of course we were interested!

So it’s with great pleasure, and after much anticipation, that we present the fifth episode in series 2: Sins of the Father. Following the episode, we have a great roundtable discussion of the series with some die-hard Whovians. And in case you missed it, we interview MA Tamburro and Atweh from AM Audio Media in Issue 11.

For all the episodes in series 2, visit AM Audio Media. And you can catch up on series 1 there too.
