Playing Around – Do Whatever a Spider Can

Though they didn’t have a big presence at Comic-Con International this time around, Marvel did make some big announcements. One of those was details on the upcoming Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4. Con attendees were even able to play the game at the Marvel booth! But the excitement isn’t just about the game itself.

“When a new villain threatens New York City, Peter Parker and Spider-Man’s worlds collide. To save the city and those he loves, he must rise up and be greater.”

Hitting stores on September 7 (and, not surprisingly, available now to pre-order), Spider-Man features a more experienced Peter Parker who knows what he’s doing when it comes to fighting crime. But he also needs to balance his personal life and career, which adds an interesting element to the gameplay. Plus, the game follows an original storyline and includes a variety of characters, including Silver Sable. Take a look at the story trailer for more.

Even more interesting is that Marvel is releasing elements across various media to add to the gaming experience. Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover is a prequel novel for the game and comes out on August 21. The story follows Spider-Man as he attempts to take down Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. Confirmed characters include Mary Jane Watson and J. Jonah Jameson, but it’s likely many others will make an appearance. There will also be a soundtrack released in a special edition, double LP vinyl format (one red and one blue).

Oh, and for those who are hardcore Spidey fans, there’s a PS4 pro bundle available. It includes a 1 TB PS4 in a flashy red with a white spider logo, a matching red DualShock wireless controller and, of course, a copy of the game – all for $400. You’ll definitely have all your spider duties covered!
