Comics Cosmos – Iron Fist

In barely a couple of months, on March 17, Netflix will premiere the latest in its street-level heroes shows. Iron Fist is based on the Marvel character of the same name who first appeared in comics in 1974.

Before attaining any powers, Danny Rand was the son of a wealthy entrepreneur in New York City. In the comics, Danny’s father returns to the mystical city of K’un L’un with his son and wife, but Danny is the only one to survive the journey. He is taken in by the ruler of the city and taught martial arts, which ultimately leads to attaining the power of the Iron Fist.

The premise of the Netflix series has Danny returning to New York to reclaim his family business after a mysterious absence of 15 years. He is already skilled in martial arts and it will be only a matter of time before the power of Iron Fist is revealed.

It’s not just the location of New York City that links Iron Fist to the other Netflix Marvel shows. One character consistent through Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage also appears in this series: Claire Temple. Attorney Jeri Hogarth, who had a significant role in Jessica Jones, also makes an appearance. And the Easter Egg from the end of Luke Cage will come to fruition with Colleen Wing as a series regular.

Iron Fist is the final piece of the puzzle that will come together later this year as The Defenders, bringing together the heroes of all four shows. And once Danny and Luke meet in that series, it could only be a matter of time before we hear rumors of a Heroes for Hire series (fingers crossed, anyway).
