Best Geeky Finds – A Christmas Present to Make You Cry

It’s so bad even Netflix is making fun of it – and they were the ones who bought the rights to it! So of course, if it’s that bad, I knew I had to watch it… and I didn’t think it was that bad.

Think of the sappiest Hallmark movie you’ve ever seen, take out the child deaths but keep the one crippled child. Now add a prince, a dead father (though being a Hallmark movie that was probably already ingrained into the plot), a fake backstory of an American girl, and set it all on Christmas for no reason other than that’s the best time to release the movie. That’s A Christmas Prince.

This isn’t the typical movie I usually talk about here. It’s the type of movie one watches on a night of depression during a snow storm or during a binge of Lifetime movies because the remote is lost. Yet I couldn’t stop watching.

When Amber (Rose McIver, iZombie) is assigned a story about the soon-to-be King Richard II of Aldovia (which I’m still pretty sure is the country in the Princess Diaries), she takes the assignment, only to be left with the rest of the reporters on the sideline as Richard (Ben Lamb, Divergent) doesn’t show up. Crafty as she may be though, Amber sneaks into the castle and accidentally poses as Princess Emily’s new governess, finding a new way to get her story. As all stories like this go, she and the prince fall in love with each other, with the help of the conniving little sister, and so goes the way of the movie. Oh, and his cousin wants the throne also. Yeah, there’s the suspense near the end.

With less than two weeks before Christmas, this appears to be the hot movie on Netflix, though that may just be the 53 people who’ve made it a daily tradition. I wouldn’t say watch it daily for the next nine days, but maybe at least once before the end of the year.
