Best Geeky Finds – Travel to the Past, Learn from the Future

Blog-BGFWhat would you do if a future clone of yourself contacted you in a video transmission from 227 years in the future? If you were a child like Emily, probably nothing because you would be too young to comprehend what is going on.

World of Tomorrow is a short film about just this. In the film, Emily’s clone explains to young Emily that in the future cloning has become successful, so in order to stay alive forever, people give birth to clones of themselves then transplant their memories to the new bodies. This process has become fragmented over time which is why this Emily clone, who has spent most of her life programing and supervising robots on the moon, has become depressed and chosen to contact Emily Prime.

The wonderful part about this film is how it is shown from the viewpoint of the Emily clone, but is also seen through the eyes of a young child seeing the wonders of the universe. The wonders of the universe are not as brilliant as one might see in a film like Star Wars, however. Reaching only 15 minutes long, the people in the film are all stick drawings while the backdrops are crude drawings of lines and circles which still prove to create a disastrous image of a future that could happen.

If Tomorrowland was too cheesy and you felt like it lacked a truthful concept of the future, check out the short film World of Tomorrow on Netflix.
