Best Geeky Finds – What Happened at Limetown?

Blog-BGFEmergency dispatch gets a call.

“Hello, can you hear me…We need emergency services in Limetown… Ambulances… Fire….Turn it off!” The call cuts out. When reporters and emergency services arrive, the police inform everybody that there are no problems there anymore. In fact, there is nothing and nobody there anymore—all 327 people living in the small gated community have vanished.

Ten years later, fictional American Public Radio (APR) reporter Lia Haddock (played by Annie-Sage Whitchurst) is investigating the incident at Limetown which the world has since forgotten. What was Limetown set up for? Who was in the community? What were they doing? What happened to warrant the 911 call from the community that allowed nobody inside? Even more, where did everybody go?

limetownIn the first season of this podcast, Lia gets the approval to report on Limetown, looking at the incident in remembrance, but also trying to learn what happened? On her trip she meets in secret with several former residents of the community, both in physical and mental forms. Unfortunately for Lia, these interviews put her and everybody she knows in danger from a mysterious being. This creature (person?) is one of my favorite/most terrifying parts of the show, having a combined voice of Hannibal Lecter and Mark Hamill’s Joker with the Silence thrown in for an added creepy echo-effect.

While Serial used the serialized drama genre to tell a true story behind Adnan Syed’s case, being fictional, Limetown easily takes the same type of story in a supernatural direction without seeming campy or being restrained by facts. Season 1 ended this past December on a major cliffhanger concerning the whereabouts of those with whom Lia had not communicated. Unfortunately no word has been said about Season 2 so far, but I am hoping we will hear soon since the first season began during July.

If you enjoyed Serial and the X-Files, this perfect combination is for you. Limetown can be found at http://www.limetownstories.com/ or on your favorite podcast app. As for the whereabouts of the town, I guess we’ll just have to wait for Season 2.
