Comics Cosmos – Highly Intelligent Inhuman

It has come to be common knowledge over the past few years, that the smartest characters in the Marvel universe are female. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Shuri’s (from Black Panther) level of genius surpassed that of Tony Stark and, thus, she was the most intelligent character in the MCU. However, she is not the smartest in all of Marvel. That mantle goes to one Lunella Lafayette.

If you don’t recognize her by name, you will likely recognize her hero moniker: Moon Girl. She is a nine year-old African-American who is not only a genius, but also mentally paired with Devil Dinosaur (yes, the character created by the legendary Jack Kirby in the late 70s). An inventor who is always daydreaming, Nella assists other heroes with her devices and her intellect (even, for example, being able to translate an attacking monster’s shrieks). And, of course, when it’s time to do battle, Devil Dinosaur always has her back.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur first hit shelves in January 2016 and the collected sixth volume is available at the end of December. It’s a smart, funny and, obviously, intelligent comic. Though it’s good for all comic fans, it will especially appeal to a young female crowd who will be able to see a bit of themselves reflected in the characters and stories.
