Back in June, Marvel announced a new team would be headlining their own comic, a “team that will do things others won’t”. Strikeforce brings together heroes (some questionably so) who are used to the darker and deadlier side of things. With a starting lineup of Angela, Spider-Woman, Hellstrom, Spectrum, Wiccan and Winter Soldier all led by Blade, it’s definitely a team ready to face the worst. 

Written by Tini Howard with art by German Peralta, the first issue (on shelves last week) seems to provide a straightforward plot involving stolen viruses. But things take a turn when it’s actually heroes who are the thieves – and they don’t remember doing it. Enter Blade, explaining to the accused that a variety of shapeshifters is involved. and then it’s time to get down to the dirty work.

Strikeforce is off to a good start, with plenty of unanswered questions and a lot of directions for the plot to head in. Plus, there are so many intriguing characters thrown together on this team that it will be worth keeping up with their adventures (and inevitable personality clashes). And it’s the perfect time of year to launch a series focusing on the darker side.
