If you went by your local comic shop for Free Comic Book Day last weekend, you may have spotted a familiar ghostly pup on the shelf. One of TOKYOPOP’s offerings this year was Zero’s Journey #0, an introduction to their new series following Jack Skellington’s pup, Zero. 

The storyline follows Zero as he gets lost in Halloween Town and Christmas Town, locales familiar to anyone who has seen Nightmare Before Christmas.  Not surprisingly, Jack mounts a rescue effort, putting plans for Halloween on hold until he can get Zero home. As an official follow-up to the movie, the comic has all the settings and characters fans love. It’s a cute story and the art reflects the style of the movie really well.

As the series is from TOKYOPOP, it is manga. But they are doing things a bit differently this time and actually releasing individual issues in comic book format, before collecting the story in a couple of volumes. The first issue is already out, so you can continue right from the FCBD #0 to issue #1.
