Playing Around – Battling to Save Hogwarts

We all know that when you’re into a fandom, you can’t get enough of it, regardless of the form it shows up in. And, not surprisingly, some big fandoms show up everywhere, even in the gaming world. So fans of Harry Potter should be happy to see there’s a new game for the franchise, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle

USAopoly created this cooperative deck building card game for 2-4 players, ages 11 and up. You get to play as Harry, Ron, Hermione or Neville and each character has their own personal card deck. Players need to work together to keep Hogwarts safe by consolidating defenses and defeating villains. Cards added to each players deck build influence and include spells, magical items and well-known characters from the franchise. Other cards are used to fight villains and regain health from Dark Art attacks.

The game involves seven adventures of increasing difficulty, so there is some reasonably good replay value, especially as players choose different characters to play and build their decks in different ways. Physically, the game includes 252 cards, four players boards, seven game boxes with rules and the usual assortment of dice, tokens and chips necessary for play. It’s currently going for around $40, which is average for this kind of game and likely within reason for the fans.
