Playing Around – Explore Your Dark Side

It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to all things spooky – though, for some of us, that’s all year long. But if you’re in the mood for something that’s more on the fun side of scary, there are plenty of board games to choose from. And Wonder Forge has released one that lets you enjoy playing the role of a villain for a change – Disney Villainous.

This family friendly tabletop game lets you play as Maleficent, Jafar, Ursula, Captain Hook, Queen of Hearts or Prince John. Your goal? Successfully pull off some evil schemes, of course! Each character follows the general storyline from their respective movies and they each have their own board, card decks, guide and token. You use your character’s unique abilities to reach your objectives. You can also thwart other players using you “fate deck”, which includes movie heroes.

Considered a “light” strategy game, Disney Villainous can be played by up to 6 players. The instructions are straightforward and the fact that each villain is playing through its own story gives this game a different feel than most competitive tabletop games. Because of the decent replay possibilities, the $35 price tag is reasonable for this kind of game.
