Irregular’s Intel – Geek Car Culture

K.I.T.T., the A-Team van, Baby, The Mystery Machine, the Mach 5…just the names alone bring to mind images of our favorite shows and cartoons. Not to mention the time we spent imagining driving those vehicles. It is safe to say that there is some semblance of a “car culture” in the geek world. How many of us have owner manuals for the Batmobile and feel pretty confident in saying which one is better and why? Or how many own the Marvel vehicle tech manual and have read (several times over) the specs for Cap’s motorcycle or one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s flying cars? I bet you’re reaching for it now.

It is funny when you think about it. The general populace wouldn’t recognize the deep love for the vehicles featured in our fandoms as car culture, but it is. I think that it is immaterial that we may not ever look under the hood of Ecto 1 or know how to fix Dr Banzai’s Jet Car, but that’s not what it is all about, is it? It is safe to say that geek car culture is just as valid as those who follow Indy Racing but have no idea how the whole thing works.

So, I feel a need to go and read up on the Punisher’s Battle Van and see how he had to modify it to hold a small arsenal and all of the tech upgrades he put in it. I’m a geek, it’s not enough for me to just accept that a van can carry all of that gear without some modifications. What are some of your favorite vehicles? Let me know!
