Best Geeky Finds – When Everybody Asks You to Write

If you are a regular follower of my Saturday posts (and if you are, please let us know), you may have noticed I have become much laxer with writing something for the website every week. When I have a chance to write for GW1, I put a blog post together, but more and more lately I have not had enough time to find new material to discuss, let alone write about it.

The reason for this is that my writing skills have been used elsewhere. In July, a small group of people came together in my town with one goal—to create a newspaper that is locally-owned and operated. Most of the big newspapers in the area have been purchased by outside companies and, though most of the writers are still local, the aim of the papers has changed. I had heard many people complain they no longer see cultural articles in their paper, and local news can no longer be read about in the local paper.

When I joined the group, I set out with the idea that I might be there just as a fact checker or running the social media pages. Since that time however, I have been appointed the editor of the Arts section, as well as associate editor of the entire paper. Yeah, that’s a big jump.

The Falls Free Press just released its inaugural issue this week in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The newspaper focuses on the arts and culture of our city and surrounding areas, as well as local news that is important to our readers. Although the publication is monthly, the paper’s goal is to keep the community informed of news readers may not hear elsewhere.

If you live in the Cuyahoga Falls area, you can find copies of the paper is most areas. If you visit the newspaper’s Facebook page, a list of locations is available. You can also keep up with the newspaper’s content on its website.

I hope to have more content for you GW1 readers in coming weeks, though with the rush for the next issue, on top of my regular work schedule, availability of time to enjoy content is slim. Keep an eye out for future posts from me on Saturday though, as I have not stopped writing completely.
