Watching the Golden Globes ceremony last night was a nice reminder of how good it can feel to be surprised. I’m not talking about a big birthday, everyone jumps out and yells at you sort of surprise. What I mean is when you were sure something was headed in a direction you weren’t exactly happy about, but things turn around and the outcome is much more positive than expected. 

Sure, everyone wants things to go their way and there are times they will. But there are even more times when events favor someone or something else. So when you’re expecting things to not turn out in your favor, it’s rather satisfying when they do. It’s those little surprises that can spark joy when you least expect it. That joy can lead to confidence and that confidence can lead to bigger and better things – you really never know until it happens.

So, basically, what I’m saying is to never give up – expect the unexpected and you just might be surprised what can happen. And when the outcome is in your favor, make the most of it, even if it’s something intangible and simply brings a little extra happiness to your day. We can all use a little bit more joy in our lives.
