This week I got to interview another friend of ours, Adrian.

VR: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I’m 30 years old, an entrepreneur, dog groomer, psychology student, and a late bloomer geek. I didn’t really get into nerd things until my late 20s. It started out innocent as a Harry Potter obsession in high school. I would pretty much just focus on those things and a few geeky TV shows here and there. It wasn’t until my Doctor Who discovery in late 2009 that I started branching out into anything nerd that I could get my hands on. In 2012 I started buying the nerdy t-shirts and watching and rewatching Doctor Who and Torchwood, plowing through recommended TV shows on Netflix like it was my job (I was part time employed so it sort of was my job). I had branched out from my humble Harry Potter beginnings.

I met my boyfriend the summer of 2013 and was invited to Dragoncon (which happened just 5 days after that) and had the time of my life at my first real Con (I’d gone to one a few months prior, but I was far too inebriated to enjoy it and we only stayed for a few of the concerts). Dragoncon was so massive and entertaining, I love everything about it. Now I go to at least 5 major conventions a year across the east side of the US.

VR: Whats you favorite memory?

A: My current favorite memory, and story to tell, was of this past Dragoncon where I went to the Game of Thrones fan panel. Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) took part in it; it was really entertaining and I was sitting in the 3rd row, front and center. At the end of the panel, he mentioned that we should stop by and say hi to him and I thought “well shoot, why not” so I moseyed down to the Walk of Fame at the bottom of the Marriott to “Say Hi” ….which was literally all I could get out when the time came…I honestly didn’t think I would be allowed that close without paying something, and on principle (unless it’s Stephan Amell or John Barrowman) I will not pay to take a selfie from my own phone or get a piece of paper signed that I’m nearly positive I would lose. But there he was, just standing around with the rest of people chatting. So I walked up and forgot any of the things I wanted to say (ANYTHING about Adventure Time because I love it and so does he) and really just general conversation starters that most any 5 year old knows. I say “So, love your character” he says thanks, “show’s great” he says thanks again, *pause of silence that nearly killed me* then he introduces himself and I realize I hadn’t even said my name. I’m shaking and sweating like a dufus. “OH I’m Adrian” *another awful pause* “have a GREAT weekend” I said this, he said you too and I walked away… like the idiot I was and just shook and sweated until I heard my friend shout my name. I proceeded to tell her the story and was greatly laughed at… I still regret not even having a small conversation with him like the human being he is. But I will say that he is stellar and it was so nice to meet him for the brief time.
