Best Geeky Finds – Too Much of a Good(?) Thing

With as busy a schedule as I have held for the last month, keeping up with TV shows hasn’t been a priority in life. Not having a DVR, I keep a note in my phone, marking off after watching a show to remember where I left off in the event I don’t come back to it for another month. The thing is, I’ve noticed there is both way too many shows out there and not enough content. Yet I’m still a fan of all of it.

I really came to understand this on Wednesday during a conversation with a coworker. We were talking about cosplay and it turned into a discussion on Supernatural. He mentioned that he had watched the Scooby-natural episode (because there’s no excuse not to) but hadn’t seen any of the other episodes this season. That doesn’t make him any less of a fan – there are just other things to watch on television in the short time we have to do so.

At the same time, I look at CW’s recent renewals of all its shows. If everything current comes back, there is no space for new, innovative ideas to be tried out on the network where almost everything is succeeding. Sure, there are streaming services that are kicking butt with new programming, but not everybody can afford to add these to their tv plans. Sometimes even a cable streaming service is too much.

So while I have nothing to review this week, I wanted to pose this idea: when is there too much TV? As great as all the new shows are, is it too much to follow weekly programs, along with binging series when they come out?
