Comics Cosmos – Legion

ccFirst announced in October 2015 and set to premiere in February 2017, Legion is a collaboration between FX and Marvel Television. It’s based on a comicbook character of the same name, who is the mutant son of Professor Xavier – yes, from X-Men. This is the first series to have a direct tie-in to the X-Men movies.

David Haller (aka Legion) has powers stemming from his multiple personalities (dozens of them!), which are all battling to take control. In the comics, his mutant powers include telepathy, telekinesis and pyrokinesis, with different personalities controlling each. Misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, he has lived in various psychiatric hospitals for the majority of his life. He’s often not sure what’s real and what’s not, and the show is intended to play with the audience that way as well.

Producers have said the show will depict X-Men stories in slightly different ways and with a different tone than the movies. The series is set at least a few years in the past, when the US is just becoming aware of the existence of mutants. It allows writers to work angles leading up to the movies instead of dealing with them entirely as past events. But don’t expect any big character cameos, especially in the first few episodes – they want to establish the show as a standalone before getting into any cross-overs.
