Comics Cosmos – Look At Me!

There is no denying the popularity of Rick and Morty, the animated show for adults following the exploits of the smartest man in the universe and his far less intelligent grandson as they travel through space and time. The popularity is reflected in the amount of merchandise that’s out there (just swing by any Hot Topic for a taste) and the cosplay you see at every convention. But the show also has additional stories now in comics, including some one-shots featuring popular secondary characters. The most recent issue of this is Rick and Morty Presents Mr. Meeseeks

Yes, the Mr. Meeseeks finally feature in their own story, as they try to find the meaning of life. If you’re not familiar with the character(s), Mr. Meeseeks is a race of problem solvers (yes, they all go by the same name). You push a button and a Mr. Meeseeks pops into being to help you solve a problem. It can do chores, answer questions, help with a project – the more complicated the task, the longer it sticks around. And when the task is complete, you say thank you and Mr. Meeseeks poofs out of existence.

But the problem is, the longer a Mr. Meeseeks is around, the more it starts to think and, ultimately, it has an existential crisis. So considering the story in this particular comic has a pair of Mr. Meeseeks trying to figure out why human life is worth living… well, let’s just say things get a bit stressful. But the story is still a lot of fun for those into Rick and Morty’s dark humor and definitely a recommended read.
