Comics Cosmos – Unstoppable Return

Last month, when talking about the miniseries Ant-Man and the Wasp, mention was made of The Unstoppable Wasp series, starring Nadia Pym. The book followed not only Nadia, but other “girl geniuses” who saved the day. It ran for only right issues in 2017, but Marvel recently announced that the title, with all the familiar characters, would be making a comeback this fall.

Nadia is Hank Pym’s second daughter and she grew up not knowing her father at all. She was raised and trained as a captive of The Red Room, a similar experience to Black Widow. When she escaped, she made her way to the US to find her father, only to discover him missing. In addition to her search for him, she’s also trying to secure citizenship (proving she has a US father would make that easier) and track down other girls like her – genius scientists.

The Unstoppable Wasp is a fun read and great for the younger crowd. Nadia has a lot of energy and just never stops. There are also appearances by Ms. Marvel, Mockingbird, Moon Girl and more. And perhaps one of the best aspects of the books is the science – there are little science facts sprinkled throughout, such as how the joints in a robot move (when Nadia is fighting a giant robot, of course) or the effectiveness of striking certain areas of the body in a scuffle with someone bigger than you. Very STEM-friendly, yet not in a way that makes the reader feel they’re being forced to learn things.
