Comics Cosmos – Valiant’s Ninjak and Bloodshot

I spent the better part of last year reading a lot of things that I just didn’t enjoy and I started to lose interest in reading. My wife suggested that I try out Valiant Comics’ characters Bloodshot and Ninjak, so I bought the first volumes of each. I decided that I will dedicate this year to reading what I want. I got into Bloodshot and it was instant love, the same for Ninjak. Let me break down for you why both of these are so awesome.

Bloodshot is a long-established character, having been around since 1992. He is a nanite imbued supersoldier who, after having the nanites taken out of him, goes on a self-directed mission to find the reason for a series of mass murders that, he believes, is tied to the nanites. Along the way he struggles with his past, his sanity and a chance for redemption. The story is engaging and the characters are well developed. I found it hard to put down and was ordering the next volume about halfway through the first.

Ninjak is another longstanding character, who was introduced in Bloodshot’s book in ’93. Ninjak is an operative for MI-6. He is wealthy, titled, lethal and psychologically damaged. He is sent on a mission to take down an international arms maker who will cater to the highest buyer. In the course of the action, we learn more about Ninjak’s past, both personal and professional. He is not a good person, but yet sympathetic. He eventually goes rogue and becomes a man with a target on his back, being hunted by all sides. Who do you root for when everyone is the villain?

Bloodshot’s stock is about to go up with a feature film starring Vin Diesel in the works and there’s a popular webseries that features Ninjak as well. Jump on now so you can see what all the fuss will be about. And… you’re welcome!
