Comics Cosmos – When Titans Fall

What happens when the immortal Titan who gifted man with knowledge and the skills to use it comes to the “real world” and discovers what has become of his gift? And what about that Flame of Knowledge for which he has suffered – will he ever get it back? This is the premise behind the independent comicbook series Prometheus

Most people know the legend of Prometheus, who granted gifts of skill and knowledge to mankind. He was punished by Zeus with an eternity of being attacked by an eagle while chained to a rock. Healing each night, Prometheus was forced to endure the torment anew each day.

This series gives a decidedly different spin on the tale, though the Titan is still trapped and beaten daily by a personification of the eagle. He ends up on Earth, disappointed to see how man has wasted the gifts he bestowed and begins a quest for the Flame of Knowledge – what he feels he is due for his suffering. Along the way he meets with other immortals who have adapted, in their own ways, to life on Earth.

Described by the publisher as “a fantasy filled John Wick-style revenge odyssey”, Prometheus has an intriguing plot and the storytelling flows well. It has interesting takes on not only the Titan’s legend, but also the mythologies of the Gods, their stereotypes and their motivations. Knowing just a bit about mythology gives readers a feel for the characters very quickly.

Prometheus is written by Ryan Little. The art, from Chris Shehan, fits the story style perfectly. It’s not crisp, clean, superhero stuff. There’s a raw quality to it, with an intensity to the lines that creates just the right atmosphere. See for yourself on the Kickstarter campaign for issue #3, which runs until July 12. Digital copies of the first three issues are available for just a $12 pledge or you can get physical copies of all three for less than $20 – a small price to pay for a legendary tale.
