Irregular’s Intel – My Problem With Spoilers

They’re everywhere! Magazines, the internet, even in the cafeteria where you work… SPOILERS!! From the novel you’re reading to the game you’re playing to the series that you’ve been streaming, there are spoilers out there to ruin your enjoyment or take away your surprise at the conclusion. Some think that it’s funny and others don’t really care, but for those of us who have invested time in getting to the end of whatever it is that we’re enjoying, spoilers are the worst!

The other night I was watching the latest season of Voltron: Legendary Defender with a dear friend and her daughter. She is a 10 year-old girl who eat, sleeps and breathes EVERYTHING Voltron, but, suddenly she was reticent about finishing the last two episodes of the season. My friend didn’t know why, just chalked it up to her being 10. There was one scene where thing got very intense and her daughter started bawling her eyes out, almost to the point of being inconsolable. But, as the show progressed to the end, she was suddenly better. Finally, she admitted that her friends “spoiled” the ending for her, but they lied and gave the wrong ending. It broke my heart to see that and it got me thinking. How many people have been similarly hurt just because someone thought that it would be funny to ruin the ending for someone else? It is rude.

Now, I know that in about two days GW1 is going to give the full download of season two of Marvel’s Iron Fist. The difference is that we warn the listeners so that, if they want to get everything, they are doing it knowingly. And that’s all I’m saying: speaking as someone who is anti-spoiler, don’t be a dick and ruin someone else’s enjoyment. There’s not too much to bring us happiness in this life and taking that away is a dick move of the highest order.
