Irregular’s Intel – Working Amongst Your People

I’ve had a position change at work recently and, in doing so, I’ve joined a new team. Now, I was pretty comfortable with my old team. I could freely express myself and, although many were not ”geeky”, they could follow me in conversation. I enjoyed it and felt that it was as good as things could get for me, professionally… boy, was I wrong!

Before I go further into my experience, I want to preface this by saying that I thoroughly enjoy my place of employment. I agree with their corporate principles, so much so that they largely follow my personal beliefs. What I’m about to explain has become the extra frosting, the pie a la mode, the cherry on top!

My new office is super geeky! I mean from comic lovers, to the sci fi fans, to gamers and chess players. I have never been surrounded by so many of my tribe in a professional environment. It has honestly added additional motivation to go to work and to be even further engaged in what I do. It’s odd because I never thought, outside of TV and movies, that this sort of thing existed. Along with this experience, I have found myself becoming even more comfortable in my skin.

Honestly, I could continue to gush, but that wasn’t the point of this entry. I’m just saying that if you can extend the geek level in your life to include your workspace, do it! Or maybe I’m late to the party and you already have? If so, share your experience with me!
