Playing Around – It’s a Disney Afternoon

If you’re a child of the 90s (or have always loved Disney), you’ll remember the Disney Afternoon. It was a block of animated shows that included Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin and Chip ‘n Dale’s Rescue Rangers. If you were into gaming, you might also remember that Capcom came out with Nintendo games for those shows too. Well they’re back, in the recently released The Disney Afternoon Collection

Now playable on Windows, PS4 and Xbox One, this collection contains six games – one for each show, plus sequels for Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers. As many 90s Nintendo games were, these are primarily side-scrollers. And they do retain their original style and gameplay. The collection has upgraded, however, allowing players to rewind and use time trial modes. Plus there’s an online leaderboard function to add a more competitive angle.

For both Duck Tales games, you play as Scrooge McDuck and, not surprisingly, you’re trying to amass a treasure. Darkwing Duck is an adventure scroller involving lots of shooting and jumping, and Tale Spin has players flying around… and shooting. Both Rescue Rangers titles involve solving mysteries and feature co-op play.

Reviews have been solid so far (9/10 on Steam), so if you want that bit of Disney nostalgia, The Disney Afternoon Collection is worth considering.
