Best Geeky Finds – Roll a D6 for the Next Scene: Review of Beyond the Gates

When The Ring was first released in theaters, the concept was unique and actually threatening. A VHS tape with a trapped spirit. VHS tapes were regularly rented and borrowed from friends, and the more they were played, the worse the tracking got, causing lines on the screen. As the movies continued, most importantly with the recent sequel Rings, the concept was all but lost on most audiences, given that the original premise surrounded an out-of-date and forgotten media.  Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – Roll a D6 for the Next Scene: Review of Beyond the Gates

Best Geeky Finds – A Christmas Horror Story

Since Love Actually hit the movie screens, only to be showing repeatedly on cable television every holiday season for no perceptible reason, the concept of interconnected stories that have little to do with each other has been related to Christmas. Best Geeky Finds – It’s the Season of the Witch: Review of Horror Hotel

Blog-BGFIt’s time for that ultra-special graduate school paper on the topic of your own choosing. What will the topic be? The history of Lancashire? The works of Edgar Allan Poe? Last weekend, at Ghoulardifest in Parma, I met a couple of new horror hosts who are keeping the tradition alive.  Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – A Mummy and a Monkey You’ll Just Keep Watching

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Creepy Tech

Blog-MDMAs it’s the beginning of Hallowe’en month, it seems appropriate to talk a bit about the horror genre. I’m not into the hack and slash variety (they bore me with bad storytelling and repetitive, unrealistic effects) and anything overtly fake is just tedious to sit through. I prefer the more real world paranormal movies and shows, the creepy things that make your skin crawl. And I find one of the most overlooked (but, thankfully, increasingly popular) branches of the genre is tech horror.  Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Creepy Tech
