I first became interested in comics as a child, not by reading about superheroes or adventure stories, but through ham radio. Every year I would go backstage at the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron with my dad as he radioed in each driver and coordinated races. Best Geeky Finds – Bring Me to Life (or Death)
There are two series I constantly look back at as having been canceled too soon without any suitable conclusion. The first is Dead Like Me.
Dead Like Me, created by Bryan Fuller, is about George Lass (Ellen Muth), a college drop-out who is forced by her mother to take a temp job instead of being a slump at home. Unfortunately for her, the job sucks. Even worse, she is hit by the flaming toilet seat from the deorbiting Mir space station during lunch, killing her instantly. Thankfully, she doesn’t completely die. Reaped by the hot dog salesman who has now met his quota and can pass on, George takes his responsibility and becomes a Grim Reaper herself. Best Geeky Finds – A Mummy and a Monkey You’ll Just Keep Watching
There is a long tradition of late night horror movie hosts in Cleveland – Ghoulardi, the Ghoul, Big Chuck & Lil John. Of course, the concept of horror movie hosts who interlude and interrupt bad movies is not strictly a Cleveland tradition. Other greats include Elvira, Vampira, and even Mystery Science Theater 3000.
