Comics Cosmos – Powers

ccBased on a comic book series written by Brian Michael Bendis, Powers was an original series for the PlayStation Network. It’s a world where superheroes exist alongside humans and follows two detectives, one of whom used to have super powers, who investigate crimes that involve superhumans.

In the series, there is a special division of the LAPD that focuses on “powers” crimes. Because they exist in the real world, superhumans are not just hero crime fighters (or, sometimes, villains), they are also celebrities with agency representation. So the police have to deal with more than just the typical sort of paperwork.

Unfortunately, the tv series lasted only two seasons (which was announced barely a couple months ago, so who knows, it may come back at some point). The comic series it’s based on, which debuted in 2000, is still running so there’s plenty of story to get into. Both the show and the comics have a noir feel, which take it out of the typical crime story. Of course, there were some unanswered questions left by the show, but there are plenty of answers (and more questions) in the comic.
