Irregular’s Intel – Cheers to the Late Bloomers of the World

The other day I was talking to my wife about where I am in life at this moment. I was talking about how happy I am and how it has taken me longer than most to start to realize my potential, sorta. I said that I was ok with being a late bloomer. I said that thinking of how so many others seem to have gotten a clue about what they want out of life and how to get it way earlier than me. I stated that it was ok because I am living my best life right now. She looked at me and said that she didn’t see me as a late bloomer, more like I had managed to find the ideal environment for me to grow in. I can see her point, too, actually. I mean, I am fortunate to work in a place where I am surrounded by colleagues who embrace individuality and see our differences as a source of strength. It is so empowering!

On a related note, I was watching the news and saw a story about a 97 year old world class swimmer. The crazy thing is, she didn’t start swimming until she was 65!! Since then, she has won gold medals, broken records and is even in the Swimming Hall of Fame!! What I am saying is two things: #1. You are never too old and  #2. Like Indiana Jones said, it’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.
