Irregular’s Intel – For Azeroth (and All Geekdoms)!

Blog-IIEarlier this week, we shared a meme on the GWI Facebook page that called on all veteran players of WoW to prepare for the influx of new players to come because of the movie. They also asked that the experienced players take this opportunity to show patience and kindness… to engender an atmosphere of acceptance. I have to admit, reading that made me stop and take a look at myself.

A while ago I wrote a blog about “protecting the brand”. I went on to say that just because someone claims to be a geek about something, doesn’t totally make it true. I went on to say that, for many, this is a trend that will pass, and I was wrong. Who am I to judge how geeky someone is or not? I hate the very idea of someone holding me to their standard for anything (I do aim to misbehave) so, therefore, I cannot and will not do the same. Life is too short to go around being judgey, and I just can’t.

I plan on doing my part to extend a welcoming environment to geeks of all varieties. Just because I’m not into it doesn’t matter to me, anymore. Let’s have a geek filled world! I will use my platform to encourage others to get out there, share, and find others to explore your obsessions with. I grew up in a world without that, but today can and will be different. I will take advantage of the opportunities given to me when I meet new geeks to build bridges and put geeks and nerds in a positive light…and I guess, at the end of the day, that’s what we all are, anyway.
