Irregular’s Intel – Living Between Wednesdays

First, I want to give a shout out to my man Wordburglar because one of his raps inspired the title of this week’s entry. So, for us comic fans, Christmas comes weekly! Pretty much every Wednesday the new comics come out and, sometimes, that’s the only saving grace of a hard week. Even if it is a light week, we get to congregate at the safe havens that are our local comic shops. I mean, while I was away for work, the struggle was real. I was missing home and my routine was ALL the way off… add to that I didn’t get my weekly fix.

I know that for some it seems “weird”. Why get into something that takes so much of your time and cash? Well, #1, because I can, #2, it is a bit of a grounding point for me and #3, sometimes it is the one bright spot during a difficult day or week. You know how some people run to the bar after a taxing day? It is kinda like that, except I get to keep what I’m spending my money on.

On my latest trip, as I was leaving the shop, I saw a mother and her daughter, who must have been around 8 years old, walking out of the comic shop with the daughter’s haul in tow. It was a beautiful and refreshing sight to see. I didn’t begin living between Wednesdays until I went to college, but here is this little girl starting early, I kinda envied her. In my head she was experiencing the joy that I do from visiting my shop and maybe she was about to go home and delve into her recent purchases. Who knows? I just hope that it’s not a one time thing for her because once you start, it is next to impossible to stop… not that I’d ever want to!
