Into the Unknown – Games as Life

UnknownLogoThe big craze at the moment is video games. Nothing new about that. I too enjoy playing games.

Looking at the advances of the games now a days, I feel we could be heading into a SAO situation. So you ask what is SAO? Well SAO stands for Sword Art Online, it is an anime. It’s about video games slowly one-upping each other. Sword Art Online becomes the newest biggest virtual game. The series takes place in the near-future and focuses on various virtual reality MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games). To play you use Nerve Gear, which is a helmet that stimulates the user’s five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. Then a glitch happens and the players can not log out and if you die in game, you die in the real world. Are we quickly heading into this type of hunger games?

We have games that you can’t play at home. Games that help with exercise. We have the Oculus Rift and other virtual reality headsets. Which is the beginning of the Nerve Gear games?

Darpa has all of the robots. They even have a robotic challenge every year. The military is working on robots to fly planes and even drones. There are robots to help with policing and security. This week a robot was used to take a sniper out. Sounds a lot like Baymax, Terminator, or even Chappy. Sea Quest had an episode were all that was left was one male and one female. The computer that controlled everything did everything it could do to keep them alive, but all they wanted to do was play video games. They didn’t know how to interact with each other, only online.

Are we heading in this direction? Let me know what you think. How close to fiction becoming reality are we?
