Miss Dawn’s Musings – Let the Games Begin

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsI am not now, nor will I ever be, a gamer geek. It’s just not where my interests or fandoms lie. This applies to video games and tabletop. It’s not that I refuse to play or don’t enjoy it when I do, but I have so many other things I’m interested in I just don’t have the time to devote to gaming. If I’m hanging out with someone and they ask if I want to play a board game or card game or video game, I’ll usually say yes because we’re hanging out anyway and it’s something fun to do. But if they ask me what I want to play, my usual reply is “whatever you like” or “anything is fine” because I really don’t have much of a preference.

Hubby enjoys gaming much more than I do and this past weekend we finally upgraded our console. We got the special edition PS4 that came with Call of Duty – Black Ops (he likes that series), but obviously we needed a few other games and this time there was one that I actually wanted. So we picked up the Uncharted Collection, FIFA 2016 (something we can play together – Arsenal v Man U!) and, something that should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me or has been keeping up with this blog, we also got Deadpool.

To backtrack just a bit, I have always been a very casual player of video games. I never even had a console system until I met hubby. And the games I enjoy most have been more RPG/strategy or sports oriented. My favorite PS2 game was SSX and perhaps my favorite series of all time is The Sims. I gave Kingdom Hearts a try when it was first released because I’m such a Disney fan, but I couldn’t stick with it. To be completely honest, when it comes to consoles, I have never played a game all the way to the end – I lose interest and it’s simply not an accomplishment I need to reach.

So back to Deadpool. This is perhaps the first time I’ve ever wanted an action shooter kind of game. And it’s really going to come down to the character and story for me. It will be interesting to see if there’s enough to it to make me want to keep playing. I’ll let you know how it goes.
