Hearing there was a comic miniseries out named Geek-Girl, hopes were high for something new and interesting. But those hopes were dashed when I read the review copy. I was so disappointed that I almost wasn’t going to write a review. But then I thought the bad needs to be shared just as much as the good. Continue reading Comics Cosmos – Geek-Girl Disappointment

Best Geeky Finds – A Look Back at The Dark Crystal
I’ve been thinking a lot about nostalgia lately. There are a lot of movies and TV shows from my childhood that have been remade during this and last year (Ghostbusters, Girl Meets World, Fuller House), and there are more which have been in talks about remakes and sequels (Spaceballs, Labyrinth). After Dawn’s post a few weeks ago about classic films geeks love, I started thinking about these films I continue to love. I also thought about movies from my childhood others my age love with a passion. Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – A Look Back at The Dark Crystal
Best Geeky Finds – House on Haunted Hill (1999)
No cheap thrills. Genuine journey to the brink of madness.
It begins with a scream… of excitement from people on a roller coaster. This actually happens about 10 minutes into the movie, but it isn’t until here when the movie appears to start loosely making sense.
In 1931, Dr. Vannacutt did cruel experiments on the patients at an insane asylum hidden on top of the hill. These experiments were so bad that when patients finally found a way to break out of their cells, they fought against staff, killing and maiming everybody who had harmed them. The asylum would become known as “The House on Haunted Hill” (please note that this name has yet to make sense in either version of the film, and I understand less why it is used in this way here). If you’re not ready for something like Krampus (I’m certainly not), why not delve into a premise even more ridiculous? Santa’s Slay (rated R) is based on one simple premise where Santa Claus (WWE Heavyweight Bill Goldberg) is actually Satan’s son. Around the same time Christ was born, a child was born on Earth from one of Satan’s flings. This child, named Santa (who else?), did what any other demon would do — create havoc and torture all around him. Everything changed one particular Christmas night though. Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – Review: Santa’s Slay (2005)
Best Geeky Finds – Review: The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985)
If you were a kid during the 80s, you most likely recall watching the California Raisins or Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas. Aside from stop-motion animation, Claymation was one of the most popular animation forms during this era. There is one Claymation film that many do not recall though. Will Vinton’s The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985) tells the story of Mark Twain and his trip to see Halley’s Comet. Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – Review: The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985)
