She Geek Critique – Bringing the League Together

If you follow me or Geek Watch One, you know I’m a Marvel chick. The Marvel style, characters, stories – it’s just my preference. But this doesn’t mean I hate DC. In fact, as a kid, Marvel and DC were both part of my life and I had a particular fondness for the Justice League. And this past weekend the world finally got to see the team in action on the big screen. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all that satisfying.  Continue reading She Geek Critique – Bringing the League Together

Best Geeky Finds – Catch a Star By the Horns

The older I get, the more I become disappointed by animated series. It’s not because these series aren’t necessarily good – usually they are beyond spectacular for the 4-10 year-old audiences they were written to be watched by. This might actually be a sign I’m maturing (I refuse to believe this though, given my weekend binges of Ninja Turtles). But every now and then, a series comes along that’s just too good not to watch though (see previous posts about Ducktales, Gravity Falls). Star Vs. Meeple Moments – What Does It Take to RPG?

Occasionally we feature a post from our friends at The Malted Meeple. This time around, it’s about the fundamentals of playing role play games or RPGs.

I remember the first time I was asked to play Dungeons & Dragons. I was a senior in high school and about to go to college when a friend of mine invited me to play D&D with some people on Saturday night. I was hesitant. I had played very few table-top RPG’s. I was not against the idea, but I knew almost nothing about it. My initial reaction to his invitation was, “but I don’t know how to play.” If I invited you to join my friends and I in a game of basketball, but you knew nothing about the sport or how to play, you might respond the same way. However, one of the greatest elements of an RPG like D&D is that it is all make believe. These are games that simulate reality in a fantasy world. You get to take actions and make decisions in a world that doesn’t exist, for the sake of entertainment. So it doesn’t really matter if you aren’t an expert!  Continue reading Meeple Moments – What Does It Take to RPG?
