Irregular’s Intel – Living the Spy Life (Sorta)

During my recent absence, I had the opportunity to spend some time at a location that I had been wanting to visit for the last few years, The Safehouse in Chicago. If you’ve followed my blogs for any amount of time or have listened to me on GWI or MMG, you know that I am pretty much obsessed with all things spy. It doesn’t matter if it is books, games or music – I love it! Hell, I even visited a museum in DC dedicated to the craft! So, when I first heard that there was a spy themed restaurant, you know I had to go there!!  Continue reading Irregular’s Intel – Living the Spy Life (Sorta)

Irregular’s Intel – Why?

Ok, someone needs to explain to me why there are 48 medical dramas, but it takes an act of congress and a small living sacrifice for a decent spy show to stick around for longer than 3 months? I mean, seriously! There’s only so much drama one person can take! And, on top of that, there’s hardly any real work getting done at said hospitals… the mortality rates must be through the roof!  Continue reading Irregular’s Intel – Why?

Irregular’s Intel – Nick Fury: The Greatest Spy in the (Fictional) World

Blog-IIYou can have your James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer. I like those guys, too. But, none of them can hold a candle to Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Fury. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about the original 616 universe or the ultimate/cinematic universe, he is still the best there is. Born on the battlefield and baptized in the fires of covert warfare, Nick Fury is a one man army, a force to be reckoned with, and Director of the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate (aka S.H.I.E.L.D.). In the whole of his history, Nick Fury has taken on international crime cartels, political terrorists, intergalactic evils and his own organization! Irregular’s Intel – My Summer Vacation, Part 3

Blog-IIWhen I was in fourth grade and the time to order books came around (do they still do that?) I had a book catch my eye that I had to get. It was titled Is James Bond Dead? and was a collection of short stories about actual missions taken on by actual spies. When I opened the book, I was a little disappointed because there was very little mention of Agent 007, but lots of talk of people I had never heard of who did what he did in real life. Now it was my fault that I did not read the description, but it was probably one of the best mistakes of my life! I was exposed to a world where writers, entertainers and regular people put their lives on the line for their countries. I gained an appreciation for the real world of espionage after that. Jason Bourne and James Bond were and always will be cool with me, but to know that there’s a shadow war going on that the news doesn’t cover? That’s the stuff… and that is what you get at the International Spy Museum in Washington DC.  Continue reading Irregular’s Intel – My Summer Vacation, Part 3

Irregular’s Intel – Licensed to Kill and Thrill: My Top Spies

Blog-IIThis summer brings us Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne and me finally visiting a museum that I have longed to go to since its inception, the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C. I managed to finish a book this week and it got me to thinking: In the whole of all of the spies, secret agents, assassins, and freelance adventurers I have come across in my 45 years, who has made the biggest impression on me? To kick it up a notch, I thought of the different media, as well. So I am going to share my top 3 favorite spies in Movies, Television, Novels, Comics, Animation, and Video Games. I hope that you enjoy. If not, share your list with me! Continue reading Irregular’s Intel – Licensed to Kill and Thrill: My Top Spies
